Overview

Total revenue of Services sector recorded RM560.3 billion in first quarter 2023, registering positive growth of 13.1 per cent as compared to the same quarter 2022. The increment was contributed by Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages, and Accommodation segment (+RM49.5 billion; 13.1%). Meanwhile, total revenue on a quarterly basis registered a growth of 1.0 per cent or +RM5.5 billion.

Total number of persons engaged in this sector amounted to 4.4 million persons, rose 89.6 thousand persons or 2.1 per cent against the corresponding period of the previous year. For quarterly comparison, number of persons engaged went up 0.3 per cent or increased 13.1 thousand persons.

Salaries and wages paid in first quarter 2023 posted a growth of 4.6 per cent to reach RM31.3 billion compared to the same quarter a year ago. Compared with fourth quarter 2022, salaries and wages paid increased 0.7 per cent.
