Take home points - Day 1 (19 May 2024): APCAS 30 Side Events on Earth Observation Data

The integration of Earth Observation (EO) data in agricultural statistics presents numerous opportunities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of crop monitoring and analysis.

One significant advantage is cost efficiency, as EO data can optimise and reduce the need for extensive field sampling in crop surveys. This leads to substantial savings in resources and time while maintaining or improving the quality of the collected data.

Furthermore, the use of high-resolution EO data from sources such as Landsat (NASA/USGS) and Sentinel (ESA) ensures improved accuracy and frequency in the generation of crop statistics, providing timely and precise information that can aid in better decision-making and policy formulation.
