4 - 14 July 2023
Universidad de los Andes, Bogota, Colombia

Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI)
DOSM Representative:

Mr. Abul Hafidz Abdul Hamid, Assistant Director, Price, Income and Expenditure Statistics Division

Take home points:
"I'm poor because my family lives under the roof of falling tiles; my child can't afford school; my wife cooks using water from the river. I am poor in many dimensions."
The Summer School emphasised the importance of adopting a person-centred and context-specific understanding of deprivation, acknowledging the benefits of moving beyond a mere economic evaluation of poverty. Additionally, it explored the significance of understanding inequalities to provide policymakers with a more comprehensive insight into poverty and inequality, including the interconnected characteristics that could exacerbate experiences of exclusion and discrimination.
