???? 54TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS STATISTICAL COMMISSION (UNSC)

????? 27 February 2023 (Monday)

???? New York
??????????????????DOSM Representatives:
a. YBhg. Dato' Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, Chief Statistician Malaysia
b. Ms. Ezatul Nisha Abdul Rahman, Director, Strategic Communication and International Division
1?? Data stewardship: from buzzword to a viable governance framework for data and statistics
Organiser : UNSD
Insight: The working group members discuss the progress of their activities on the global implementation of #datastewardship, focusing on five workstreams: (1) governance and legal frameworks; (2) equity and inclusion; (3) sharing and collaboration; (4) links with the city data agenda; and (5) an overall conceptual framework on data stewardship. Key questions covered in this side event are:
1. What functions (and data) are covered by a data steward?
2. What does a successful implementation of data stewardship look like?
3. How does data stewardship at the national level relate to the city and local level?
2?? Orientation Session for New Commission Participants
Organiser : UNSD
Insight: An event for first-time commission session participants included sharing commission procedures and providing the first opportunity to network with other commission participants. It also briefly introduces the Statistical Commission and the UN Statistics Division, which directly provides secretariat support to the Commission. It also discusses the role and activities of the United Nations System's Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities and the Committee of Chief Statisticians.
3?? Meeting of the Bureau Members of ESCAP Committee on Statistics
Organiser : ESCAP
Insight: The meeting brought together all of ESCAP's members and associate members, as well as representatives from international statistical organisations, to provide an update on the committee's and its working groups' progress, such as IAEG-SDGs and HLG-PCCB. Malaysia, as a member of the IAEG-SDGs representing the Southern area, has provided updates on the group's progress and the DOSM contribution during its participation since 2019.
4?? High Level Forum on Official Statistics: Statistical measures beyond GDP
Organiser : UNSD
Insight: Responding to the beyond GDP agenda will require a combination of economic, environmental and social measures that go beyond measures of market activity and include measures centred on people’s well-being, and sustainability of the environment, making the contribution of nature to our well-being explicit. Therefore, the forum discusses two perspectives: the user's needs for GDP and beyond measures, as well as the statistical response to the user's demands for GDP and beyond measures.
