1. Migration issues are common across countries, regions & institution and driven by various factors including the search for better work opportunities, family reunification, disasters or crisis in the countries of origin.
2. According to UN estimates of the international migrants population, 281 million people resided outside of the countries of origin in 2020 representing 3.6% of the global population. This is the highest number recorded compared to 173 million international migrants in 2000 (2.8% of global population).
3. Asia hosted the largest number (83 million) of international migrants in 2019 (source: UN DESA 2019).
4. Population Census is the important source to get the migration data flows and stocks.
5. UN Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Census will be revised for 2030 round of censuses in line with upcoming revisions of UN recommendations on Statistics for International Migration. Photos
