Ms. Noraliza Mohamad Ali, Director, Industrial Production and Construction Statistics Division

Ms. Siti Aisyah Afifah Azman, Associate Executive, Malaysian Bureau of Labour Statistics

In 2018, the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK), in collaboration with the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and technical support from the International Labour Organization (ILO), conducted an Employment Survey in Oil Palm Plantations to measure the prevalence of child labour and forced labour in oil palm plantations in Malaysia. Following this, ILO invited DOSM to the workshop of the national statistical office to share Malaysia’s experiences, challenges, and lessons learnt in implementing the survey.

During the workshop, DOSM presented two papers, namely The Sampling Design of the Employment Survey in Oil Palm Plantation 2018 by Ms. Siti Aisyah Afifah Azman in Session V and Data Collection for Forced Labour by Mrs. Noraliza Mohamad Ali in Session VI. Throughout the workshop, participants gained knowledge about the methods used in data sampling, collection and analysis of child labour and forced labour surveys conducted by other national statistical offices.
Stay tuned for the next programmes!
