Regional Workshop on Agile Statistical System Fit for the Future

16 - 19 June 2024
Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia

Hosted by: UNESCAP
Representing DOSM:

Mrs Nazaria Baharudin, Deputy Chief Statistician, Social & Technical Development Programme

The workshop aimed to showcase national statistical, civil registration, and vital statistics systems and emphasise the need for their enhancement. Discussions also focused on agile statistical systems and their future applicability.

Key themes included strengthening administrative and alternative data sources, developing a System of Environmental-Economic Accounting(SEEA), enhancing statistical organisations through legislative improvements aligned with the current scope, streamlined business processes and ICT investments and fostering competitiveness and competence. There is also a need to develop capacity, especially for new skills, and to implement administrative data integration.

The outcomes will inform discussions at the 9th Session of the ESCAP Committee on Statistics Meeting scheduled for December 11-13, 2024.

Expectations for ESCAP include providing a regional cooperation framework, facilitating the sharing of best practices, providing technical assistance and capacity building, and developing a data governance framework for data use.
