In the first quarter of 2022, Malaysia’s labour productivity as measured by value added per hour worked grew at a marginal rate of 0.3 per cent (Q4 2021: 1.3%).

Employment Statistics First Quarter 2022

In Q1 2022, total jobs in the economic sector were 8.572 million jobs, increased by 1.8 per cent as compared to 8.424 million jobs in Q1 2021. The rate of filled jobs decreased to 97.8 per cent to record 8.388 million filled jobs in this quarter (Q1 2021: 97.9%) whereas the rate of job vacancies was 2.2, increased by 0.1 percentage point (Q1 2021: 2.1%) with 184 thousand job vacancies (Q1 2021: 178 thousand). The number of jobs created in Q1 2022 increased to 25.8 thousand as compared to 17.4 thousand in the first quarter of 2021. On a quarterly basis, the number of jobs created had increased from 20.9 thousand in the fourth quarter of 2021 to 25.8 thousand in this quarter.

Graduates Statistics 2020

In 2020, 85.0 per cent of the 5.36 million graduates in Malaysia were in the labour force while 15.0 per cent are outside labour force. Graduates Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) increased 1.5 percentage points in 2020 (85.0%) from 2019 (83.5%).
