Monthly Manufacturing Statistics Malaysia April 2013 (Updated: 11/06/2013)
PERFORMANCE IN APRIL 2013
1. SALES VALUE
The sales value of the Manufacturing sector in April 2013 declined by 5.2% (RM2.7 billion) to record RM49.7 billion as compared to RM52.4 billion reported a year ago. Meanwhile, month-on-month basis, the sales value has also decreased by 3.9% (RM2.0 billion) as compared with the preceding month. The sales value in March 2013 has been revised negative 6.5% year-on-year to record RM51.7 billion.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month, the sales value in April 2013 decreased by 4.2% as compared with the preceding month.
Year-on-year, the decrease in sales value in April 2013 was attributed to the lower sales in 55 of 116 industries (47.4%) surveyed. Meanwhile, the sales value has decreased month-on-month due to the decreases in 63 of 116 industries (54.3%). Table 1 and 2 show the percentage change in sales value for the five (5) major industries.
2. NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES
Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in April 2013 was 1,040,583 persons, a decrease of 0.1% compared with the preceding month. Meanwhile, year-on-year basis, the number of employees increased by 1.3%, or 13,278 persons as compared to 1,027,305 persons in April 2012. The total employees in March 2013 has been revised positive 1.4% year-on-year to record 1,042,049 persons.
3. SALARIES & WAGES
Month-on-month basis, salaries & wages paid in April 2013 decreased by 3.2% (RM91.8 million) to register RM2,742.5 million. Meanwhile, the total amount paid in April 2013, has increased by 6.7% (RM172.8 million) as compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. Salaries & wages paid in March 2013 has been revised positive 7.7% year-on-year to record RM2,834.4 million.
4. AVERAGE SALARIES & WAGES PER EMPLOYEE
Month-on-month basis, average salaries & wages per employee in April 2013 decreased by 3.1% to register RM2,636. Meanwhile, average salaries & wages paid per employee in April 2013 has increased by 5.4% as compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. Average salaries & wages paid per employee in March 2013 has been revised to positive 6.3% year-on-year to record RM2,720.
5. PRODUCTIVITY
Month-on-month basis, average sales value per employee or productivity in April 2013 decreased by 3.8% to register RM47,728. Productivity in April 2013 has also decreased by 6.4% as compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. Productivity in March 2013 has been revised to negative 7.7% year-on-year to record RM49,590.
PERFORMANCE IN THE PERIOD JANUARY - APRIL 2013
During January - April 2013, the sales value of the Manufacturing sector declined by 3.9% (RM 8.0 billion) to register RM198.0 billion as shown in Table 3. The number of employees engaged during the period, increased by 1.3% (13,278 persons) to register 1,040,583 persons. Cumulatively, productivity or average sales value per employee in this period decreased by 5.1% to record RM190,231.
