The index of Distributive Trade measure changes in the Distributive Trade sector in a given time period to the specified base period. This composite index encompasses the sub-indices of the Wholesale Trade, Retail Trade and Motor Vehicles (including parts and accessories).

The index was compiled in a quarterly basis with 2008=100 as the base year. Classification of industries were based on the Malaysia Standard Industrial Classification (MSIC) 2008 which is in line with the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities revision 4.

This index is a short-term indicator on the movements in the distributive trade sector as well as providing an indication on the changes in the trend of consumer spending
