Monthly Survey of Distributive Trades 2012
The Department of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM) is currently conducting the Monthly Distributive Trade Survey, 2012 commencing with reference month January 2012. This is a mail enquiry survey. Survey questionnaires are mailed to respondents at the beginning of the year and the time given to complete and return a copy of the questionnaires for each reference month is by or before the 10th of the following month (example : for reference month January 2012, the due date for submission in 10th February 2012).
The main objective of the survey is to collect the latest information on the structure and performance of distributive trade sector required by the government for current economic analysis, formulation and implementation of policies and also in monitoring the performance of the Distributive Trade Sector. The Department of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM) is currently conducting the Quarterly Survey of Services 2012. Nine (9) services subsectors will be covered in the survey as per listed below:
1) Accommodation 2) Transport and Storage 3) Information and Communication 4) Food & Beverages 5) Education 6) Health 7) Professional 8) Real estate Agents 9) Arts, Entertainment and Recreation Activities
This is a mail enquiry survey. Survey questionnaires are mailed to respondents at the beginning of every quarter. Time given to complete and return a copy of the questionnaires for each reference quarter is by/or before the 10th of the following month (example: for reference of first quarter 2012, the due date for submission is 10th April 2012).
The main objective of the survey is to collect and compile information on income, expenditure, human resources and capital expenditure of a company in order to track their quarterly economic performance as well as for the formation of a national development planning and formulation of economic policies. The Department of Statistics, Malaysia carries out annual/biennial census/survey for selected services sector for the whole country. For reference year 2008, this census/survey covers four (4) subsectors as listed below:
1) Accommodation 2) Transport and communications services 3) Information and communications technology (ICT) 4) Business and management consultancy services
The main objective of the Survey is to collect information pertaining to growth, composition and distribution of output, value added, employment and other variables of the sector to assist the government in development planning and for formulating policies. The data are also used for the compilation of national accounts, input-output tables and specific studies. In addition the results are used by economists, academicians, the private sector and individuals for economic analyses and projections.
Publication [Back] Domestic Tourism Survey (DTS) 2009
Department of Statistics Malaysia is conducting the Domestic Tourism Survey (DTS) 2009 with the objectives to collect data on the domestic tourist profile, travel behavior of the residents and to estimate their tourism consumption in Malaysia. The DTS was carried out using the personal interview approach which involved household in the living quarters (LQ) in the selected enumeration block (EB). A total of 4,902 EB were selected, which covered 39,214 LQ throughout Malaysia and had been distributed by states. A total of 3,268 LQ were estimated to be visited every month in this survey. Department of Statistics Malaysia had conducted homestay census with the objective to collect data on homestay activities to assist the government in planning and formulation of tourism policies in Malaysia. Homestay is a program where tourists stay among local families and experience their actual lifestyle first-hand-how they prepare and eat their meals, go about their work, their leisure activities and much more. Publication [Back] Tourism Establishment Survey 2009 (Reference Year 2008)Department of Statistics Malaysia is conducting surveys on three (3) activities of tourism industry in order to observe the contribution of this industry in the economy. This census is carried out to accommodate the need of data for developing Tourism Satellite Account (TSA). Total of 1275 establishments were estimated to be covered in these surveys.
