PRODUCER PRICE INDEX, MALAYSIA |

| The Producer Price Index (PPI) publication is compiled and published each month for the main Malaysia Standard Industrial Classification (M.S.I.C) 2000 categories for locally produced goods and the Standard International Trade Classification (S.I.T.C) for imported goods. The PPI is released to the general public on the last working day of the month following the reference month.
The PPI is designed to measure the changes in the price of commodities charged by domestic producers and those paid by importers for importing goods into Malaysia. The PPI constitutes local production and import price indices. The PPI measures the average change in the prices charged by producers for goods of an industry in a reference month compared with that of the base period. As of reference month January 2010, PPI for Domestic Economy, Local Production and Imports are published using a new base year, 2005=100.
A wide collection of commodities are selected to represent the various sectors of the economy and prices for these commodities are collected on a monthly basis. A total of 630 commodity items are used in the compilation of the local production price index, while 1,086 commodity items are used in the import price index. |
