| Agriculture Economic Census 2006 |
The Agriculture Economic Census was first conducted in 2006 for the reference year 2005. The total frame consisted of about 5,000 establishments. The main objective of this census is to collect data and information pertaining to the establishments involved directly in the agriculture activities including the livestock and fisheries sub-sectors. Among the statistics presented were those related to gross output generated, cost of input, employment, salaries & wages as well as fixed assets owned in the agriculture sector. The data collected could be used for planning and formulation of policies including analyses related to agriculture. |

Crops The Annual Agricultural Establishment Census-Crops was conducted for reference year 2008. This census was conducted biennial. The total number of establishments covered was about 9,175 establishments. The census was primarily conducted via mail. Respondents were given one month to complete and return the questionnaire to the Department. This Census covered all establishments registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM). The main objective of this census was to collect data and information of the establishments involved in crops sector. Among the data collected were income, production, stocks, number of persons engaged, salaries & wages paid as well as value of fixed assets. The data collected would be used for planning and formulating policies, including analyses of the agricultural sector. | Quarterly Construction Survey 2010 |
The Department of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM) is conducting the Quarterly Construction Survey for every quarter. The survey covers 72 industries from the Construction Sector (based on the Malaysia Standard Industrial Classification, 2008). This is a mail enquiry survey. The respondents are the main contractors awarded with at least one project valued of RM 500,000 and above. The respondents are given 15 days to complete and return the questionnaires to the Department. The main objective of the survey is to collect the value of work done for each project done by the main contractors. Data such as work commencement date, work completion date and percentage of the physical completion for each project also being collected. The data are used for the compilation of national accounts and specific studies. In addition, the results are used by policy makers, economists, planners and academicians in economic projections and analysis. |

| Domestic Tourism Survey (DTS) 2009 |
Department of Statistics Malaysia is conducting the Domestic Tourism Survey (DTS) 2009 with the objectives to collect data on the domestic tourist profile, travel behavior of the residents and to estimate their tourism consumption in Malaysia. The DTS was carried out using the personal interview approach which involved household in the living quarters (LQ) in the selected enumeration block (EB). A total of 4,902 EB were selected, which covered 39,214 LQ throughout Malaysia and had been distributed by states. A total of 3,268 LQ were estimated to be visited every month in this survey. |

| Homestay Census |
Department of Statistics Malaysia had conducted homestay census with the objective to collect data on homestay activities to assist the government in planning and formulation of tourism policies in Malaysia. Homestay is a program where tourists stay among local families and experience their actual lifestyle first-hand-how they prepare and eat their meals, go about their work, their leisure activities and much more. This census had covered 98 identified homestays with estimated 2,000 homestay operators throughout Malaysia. |

The Business Tendency Survey is conducted quarterly by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia since 2004. The survey gathers views from the senior management of 465 prominent establishments in four major sectors in Malaysia namely industry, construction, wholesale & retail trade and services. The main characteristic of this survey is to collect information regarding the direction of change of key economic variables. The Business Tendency Survey collects qualitative information from business managers on their assessment of the business performance for the past quarter and the expectations for the next three and six months. The information is useful for monitoring the current economic situation. |

| BNM-DOSM Joint Survey on International Investment Position |
Commencing first quarter, 2008, the Department of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) will jointly collect data on international investment position known as BNM-DOSM Joint Survey on International Investment Position (IIP). The IIP report will replace the two (2) previous reports of the following: • Quarterly survey on International Investments and Services by DOSM; and This joint effort, which is online approach using the BNM website, will further improve the efficiency of compilation and reduce reporting burden as companies need only submit one report. The data collected will be shared by DOSM and BNM, by which DOSM will be fully responsible in compiling and disseminating the balance of payments (BOP) and IIP reports. |

The Agriculture Census 2005 was conducted as a complete enumeration which covers all household who had reported agriculture as the main occupation either as employer or own account worker. Agriculture activities include crops, livestock, fisheries and agricultural services. The census was carried out via face to face interview using a questionnaire. This census will be conducted once in 10 years. The results of this census can be obtained via the publication namely, Agriculture Census 2005-Crops. However, data on livestock, fisheries and agriculture services which were published via these publications namely Agriculture Census 2005-Livestock, Agriculture Census 2005-Fisheries and Agriculture Census 2005-Agriculture Services are for internal use only and not published for the public. |

| Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2008 |
The main objective of LFS is to collect information related to the structure and characteristic of labour force, employment and unemployment. Besides providing estimates at national and state level, this survey also provides useful aggregated data by urban and rural areas. The LFS covers both urban and rural areas of all states in Malaysia. Personal interview method is used in which trained interviewers will visit households in selected living quarters during the survey period to collect information on all household members including their demographic particulars. Information on labour force is collected for household members who are 15 years and over only. In response to the requirement for more real time data, the LFS is conducted monthly beginning January 2004 to produce monthly labour force indicators at national level. |

| Migration Survey 2008 |
Migration Survey is attached to the LFS and covers the same population as LFS i.e. household members aged one year and over, residing in selected living quarters in Malaysia. The main objective of Migration Survey is to provide estimates of population movements as well as migration trends at state level, in addition to getting the socio-economic information on migrants and non-migrants such as age, sex, employment and type of occupation at the place of destination. The scope of migration data in the survey is limited to fixed-term migration. Respondents were asked for the usual place of residence on two specific reference dates which are exactly one year apart. A change in the usual place of residence locality between these two points constitutes migration. |

The Household Income Survey (HIS) was conducted by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia since 1973. However, starting from 1987, The Basic Amenities Survey was conducted together with Household Income Survey and known as Household Income/Basic Amenities Survey (HIS/BA). The latest HIS/BA survey was carried out in 2009. The main objectives of the HIS/BA survey are to measure the economic well-being of the population; collect information on income distribution pattern of household classified by various socio-economic characteristics; identify the poor groups; collect information on basic amenities of household; and study the effects of the implementation of national development program. |

| Household Expenditure Survey |
The Household Expenditure Survey (HES) was first conducted in the year 1957/58. Beginning 1993/94 it was carried out at an interval of five years and subsequently in 1998/99. The recent survey was undertaken in 2009/2010. The survey covers private households in urban and rural areas. The main objective of HES is to collect information on the level and pattern of consumption expenditure by households on a comprehensive range of goods and services. This information serves as the basis for determining the goods and services to be included in the basket of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). It is also used to update the CPI weights where the CPI is a measure of the average rate of change in prices of a fixed basket of goods and services which represents the expenditure pattern of households in Malaysia. However, over the years, demand for data from the survey has increased and it is now used for several purposes. HES has become an invaluable source of information for government and private sectors, researchers and university students. |

Price Collection |
| Collection of Consumer Prices 2009 |
The Department of Statistics, Malaysia carries out monthly consumer price collection for the whole country. It covers a total of 135 collection centres, that is, 98 price collection centres in Peninsular Malaysia, 19 price collection centres in Sabah and 18 in Sarawak. Field officers collect prices of about 460 items from these selected outlets. The main objective of the price collection is to obtain data on prices paid by consumers for fixed items. These data will be used to compute the Consumer Price Index. The Consumer Price Index, in general, will be used as an indicator for price changes and as a 'proxy' of the inflation rate in the country. |

| Collection of Producer Price 2009 |
The Producer Price Index (PPI) is designed to measure the changes in the price of commodities charged by domestic producers and those paid by importers for importing goods into Malaysia. The PPI covers the following five broad sectors of economy, namely Agriculture, Fishing, Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity, gas and water supply. The indices are aggregated for the various activities of the economy in order to generate indices at the required level of various sectors of industry to give the required indices. A wide collection of commodities are selected to represent the various sectors of economy and prices for these commodities are collected on a monthly basis. A total of 820 commodity items are used in the compilation of the local production price index, while 1,188 commodity items are used in the import price index. |

| Rent Survey 2009 |
Rent collected is the actual rent paid by the tenant to the house owner in the reference month. Price collection is done on eight categories of living quarters (LQ) namely; Single storey detached; Double storey detached; Single storey semi-detached; Double storey semi-detached; Single storey terrace; Double storey terrace; Apartment/Condominium and Low Cost Flat/Shop houses. Price of rent is being collected from a LQ panel decided by the State Department of Statistics. The price collected is captured by the state offices in the SIHP system developed by the IT Division. While the calculation of rent index is done in the Subject Matter Division using the program developed by the Division. |

Population and Housing Census |

The Population and Housing Census is conducted once in every 10 years. The last Census was conducted in 2000. The Census was conducted using face to face interview. Information collected includes the number of persons and households together with a wide range of demographic, social and economic characteristics. Information on housing stock, structural characteristics of houses as well as amenities in living quarters is collected. The Census data is published in various reports according to special topics which is made available at the Users Service Unit of DOSM. The statistics on housing and population will be used as inputs in the development planning, formulation of policies by the government as well as other users. The next Census is expected to be carried out in 2010. |

| Inter Census Survey |
The Inter Census Survey (ICS) will be to conduct for the first time in 2015. It is a sample survey based on a sample of enumeration blocks within which every living quarters, households and persons are enumerated. The ICS report will be an input to the calculation of the current population estimates and projections. |

| Census Coverage Evaluation Survey |
It is a sample survey based on a sample of enumeration blocks within which every living quarters, households and persons are enumerated after the implementation of Census. The data collection is independent from the Census. The CCES covered the whole of Malaysia, except for population residing in institutional living quarters which were excluded as it entails operational problems. The purpose of conducting CCES is to estimate the extent of coverage error and content error of the Census and is a guide in the planning and implementation of future censuses and surveys. |
