This inaugural report marks the first attempt by the Department of Statistics, Malaysia to compile and publish the Malaysia Classification of Products by Activity.

Compilation of the Malaysia Classification of Products by Activity is based on the Malaysia Standard Industrial Classification 2000 and the United Nations Central Product Classification. International comparability of economic statistics will be achieved when countries use product classifications by activity which are linked directly to the United Nations Central Product Classification. A common basis for the classification of products by activity will also be established when different levels consisting of headings identified by numerical codes are used.

Notes have been provided to facilitate a better understanding of the classification.
