Summary Of Monthly Rubber Statistics Malaysia February 2013 (Updated : 12/04/2013)
1. PRODUCTION
In February 2013, the production of natural rubber (NR) was 77,137 tonnes, decreased by 11,329 tonnes (-12.8%) from January 2013. Year-on-year comparison also shows a decrease of 10,940 tonnes (-12.4%). The estate sector accounted for only 5.6 per cent of the total production while the share from the smallholding sector was 94.4 per cent. The state which produce the highest NR on estates was Negeri Sembilan (21.9%), followed by Kedah (19.2%) and Perak (17.5%).
2. EXPORTS
In February 2013, exports of NR was 61,599 tonnes, a decrease of 9.7 per cent compared with the previous month. However, it decreased by 3.8 per cent (2,444 tonnes) when compared to the same month in 2012. From the total NR exports, 93.7 per cent was contributed by the Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.) with 65.4 per cent comprised of S.M.R. 20.
NR was mainly exported to People's Rep. of China (50.7%), followed by Germany (13.5%), Rep. of Korea (3.9%), Islamic Rep. Of Iran (3.6%), U.S.A. (2.5%), Portugal (2.2%), Brazil and Finland 2.0 per cent respectively.
3. IMPORTS
In February 2013, a total of 75,680 tonnes of NR was imported, a decrease of 15,801 tonnes (-17.3%) from the previous month. Nevertheless, imports increased by 17.6 per cent when compared to February 2012. Standard Rubber and Latex Concentrate were the main type of NR imported, at 24.0 per cent and 32.8 per cent respectively.
The main supplier of NR were Thailand (60.5%) and Viet Nam (12.7%). These two countries accounted for 73.2 per cent of the total imports of NR.
4. DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION
Domestic consumption of NR in February 2013 was 33,587 tonnes, reduced by 4,069 tonnes (-10.8%) from January 2013. Similarly, a decrease of 1,447 tonnes (-4.1%) was recorded when compared with the same month a year ago.
The highest consuming industry of NR was the rubber gloves industry with a total of 24,033 tonnes (71.6%), followed by rubber thread (9.0%) and tyre & tubes (5.8%). These three industries consumed more than half of the overall domestic consumption in the country with a total of 29,003 tonnes (86.4%).
5. STOCKS
At the end of February 2013, the level of stocks rose 3,982 tonnes (+2.1%) from the level of stocks of January 2013 to 192,879 tonnes. Stocks increased by 34,924 tonnes (+22.1%) compared to that of the same month last year.
6. AVERAGE MONTHLY PRICE PER KILOGRAM

In February 2013, the average monthly price of latex concentrate was recorded at 615.26 sen per kilogramme, increased by 1.06 sen (+0.2%) from the previous month but dropped 160.74 sen (-20.7%) when compared to February 2012.
The average monthly price of S.M.R. 20 was recorded at 926.38 sen per kilogramme, increased by 16.40 sen (+1.8%) from January 2013. Comparing to a year ago, this month's average price of S.M.R. was still lower by 183.12 sen (-16.5%).
7. EMPLOYMENT
At the end of February 2013, the total number of persons engaged in rubber estates was 12,537 persons. From this total, 12,533 were paid employees with total salaries & wages amounting to RM14.1 million. The number of paid employees shrank by 2.0 per cent from the previous month and 1.8 per cent from a year ago.
8. PRODUCTIVITY
The productivity of NR production on estates was recorded at 103.5 kilogramme per hectare in February 2013. Productivity of production shows a decrease when compared to month-on-month and year-on-year at 45.1 kilogramme per hectare (-30.3%) and 23.0 kilogramme per hectare (-18.2%) respectively.
